Women and girls under the Women in Motorsport umbrella closed the year in style with an end-of-year awards and appreciation party at Palm Gardens.
The event celebrated standout performers across various motorsport disciplines and acknowledged their role in growing the sport locally.
Awards and gifts were presented to top marshals, drivers, journalists, motocross standouts, sponsors, and other key contributors.
Among those recognised was two-time national motorsport champion Susan Muwonge, whose achievements continue to inspire emerging female competitors.
While the event was largely celebratory, it also drew attention to persistent challenges, particularly the struggle to secure sponsorship.
Speaking at the function, association president Evelyn Kobusingye appealed to corporate bodies and well-wishers to support female drivers and riders.
“We appeal to sponsors to come and pick at least one of our own to keep them in the sport. We have very talented sportswomen, but none currently has a sponsor, yet these are very expensive sports,” Kobusingye said.
Veteran navigator Mildred Kibuka praised Women in Motorsport for fostering unity and offering a support network for female participants.
“This is another family for me. Whenever I face a challenge, they always come to my rescue,” she said.
The celebrations coincide with a growing global focus on gender inclusion in motorsport. In 2025, the world governing body, FIA, reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and girls in the sport through programmes designed to expand participation, career opportunities, and recognition at all levels.
Organisers expressed hope that such global commitments, combined with local backing, will open up sponsorship opportunities and help more women sustain long and successful careers in motorsport.
