Nine years ago, golfer Mackinon Masereka fell in love with the sport, but it took him four years to win his first major title as a senior player.
The year 2022 was a great, memorable year for Masereka, winning the Uganda Junior Open and the Inter Schools Tournament in the space of two weeks at Kitante and at the Lake Victoria Serena course, respectively.
November 6, 2026, will now also be a memorable day for the 22-year-old after he topped the Stanbic Entebbe Open championship after returning 1-over 214 in 54 holes.
Masereka earned sh1.9m for the victory, while Kambale took home sh1.2 million after finishing second. Joseph Cwinyaai placed third with a score of 220 and received sh960,000.
Masereka's victory comes four years after his first major success as a senior player. In 2022, he won the Uganda Junior Open and the Inter-Schools Tournament within two weeks, at Kitante and Lake Victoria Serena, respectively.
Since relocating to Entebbe Club last year with the help of Michael Tumusiime, Masereka has been working on his game, and the hard work has finally paid off.
“Tumusiime has been helping me out since last year with clubs and everything associated with the sport; he has been on my side. But I’m elated to have won this one for the time I have spent here; it is really satisfying, and I’m very happy with it,” Masereka said.
In the subsidiary event that closed the fourth edition of the championship, Michael Byron (69 nett) and Lillian Koowe (70) were the best players in Group A, while James Joash Okema (63) and Annita Amumpaire (65) topped Group B.

The different winners pose with their trophies after the Stanbic Entebbe Open at Entebbe Club, November 7, 2026.
Allan Masiko (68) and Tony Kisadha led Group C and the seniors' category respectively.
In a message read on his behalf by Rita Apell, the bank's Chief Information Officer, Stanbic Bank Uganda chief executive officer Mumba Kalifungwa congratulated the winners, particularly the professionals who played over four days, and all the other competitors.
“This year in particular is special for Stanbic Bank Uganda as we celebrate 35 years in Uganda. For 35 years we have had the privilege of working alongside Ugandans, supporting individual businesses and communities as they pursue their ambitions and contribute to the growth of our country,” Mumba noted.
“As you know, our purpose is Uganda is our home, and we drive its growth. For us, 35 years is more than a milestone. It's a story of relationships, trust, and shared progress.
