Stephen Magero carded 63 nett to win his first overall prize as the MTN Tees Quarterly Mug tournament ended at Entebbe club on Saturday.
Magero, who plays off handicap 21 beat over 160 players to Saturday’s top prize but remained 25th in the Order of Merit standings after nine rounds of the monthly competition.
Magero who is a course member at the Entebbe course first played for SMACK in the Clash of the Titans event at the Uganda Golf Club in the morning where he didn’t fare well, before heading to Entebbe to compete in the September Mug in Entebbe.
“I’m happy that I have managed to win my first overall trophy after several group B and C accolades and now I have to keep winning in the upcoming events,” Magero said.
“I didn’t play well at Kitante, so I decided I had to revenge on my home course and since I have that local knowledge, I used that to the best of my ability. I had a good front nine and I decided to play conservatively on the back to stay in contention which I managed well.” Magero stated.
He is now praying for consistence to be able to move into the top ten in the order of merit as he also works to lower his handicap to his former 14.
Saidi Kirarira remains top with a cumulative net score of 626 after the nine-month action, ahead of Arthur Arinaitwe (636), Ssubi Kiwanuka and Mathias Kalule (668).
