St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) alumni carded a second leg 368 points to win the 2025 Clash of the Titans Golf Tournament with a cumulative total of 725 points after the final leg at Entebbe Club on Saturday.
The champions edged the defending champions Ntare School who finished with 709 points, by 16 points to match to their second championship victory following the earlier one they won in 2023. The fourth edition championship sponsored by Hima Cement was played over two legs with the earlier one hosted at the Uganda Golf Club last week.
SMACK’s top players who inspired their side to the championship include Joseph Luyima and Peter Kagumya who carded 40 and 39 points respectively. Kagumya also notched a hole-in-one which spiced up their victory.
The rest were Louis Tumukunde, Alex Couthino, Nathan Mubiru and Jude Ochieng who returned 37 points each as well as Claver Serumaga, Innocent Kihika and Stephen Magero who contributed 35 points apiece. Herbert Kamuntu was the other star for SMACK with 34 points on board.

“Last year we came second and it was a close call. This year we organized better and had more numbers but also as an inspiration to take the sport back to our school, we had to win because we want to take the game to the young kids and we need to keep that tradition and it was one of the inspirations to this victory,” Paul Habyarimana, the captain of SMACK said.
“We had good games together, encouraged each other to have pre-competition matches and training on the courses we were going to play, we had the numbers and that helped a lot.”
“This year’s edition was also better organized, we had two legs, but we need to take this sport to the secondary schools and eventually to the primary schools just like we have the secondary schools football competitions,” Habyarimana noted.
Ntare’s charge was led by Kevin Ninyesiga who brought 43 points which were supplemented by Philemon Akatuhurira’s 40, Sam Kacungira’s 38 and Isaiah Tugumanawe’s and Patrick Kagurusi’s 37 points. Paul Ndyaguma, Michael Tumusiime, and Brian Ahimbisibwe added 35 points apiece as Alex Matsiko and Ivan Arinaitwe contributed 34 each.
For the third consecutive time Namilyango came third with the likes of George Afi (38pts), Ivan Ssetimba and Leone Byereta (37pts each), as Dean Katuba, Edwin Tabaro, Marvin Ssebugwawo, Henry Nsubuga, Moses Ssebugwawo, Paul Nuwagaba and Milton Edimu also contributed to their efforts.
Joan Kitawona the Brand and Communications manager at Hima cement Limited said their association with the event had been a success because they were able to showcase their new products.
"We supported the event because of the numbers; this is the tournament that attracts people from all over the country and this gives us the opportunity to bond and connect with the consumers of our products. There's a lot of awareness now and very many schools have come to participate while others are asking to join in the next tournament.”
