Lukanga Boxing Club has vowed to maintain its dominance ahead of the inaugural National Elite Boxing Championship, following a generous donation of modern training and competition equipment worth over sh20 million.
The Najjanankumbi-based club received the donation from Chinese philanthropist Wang Yun, proprietor of Xing Xing Furniture. The contribution comes at a crucial time as the club intensifies preparations for the new championship, which runs from July 19 to December 13, 2025. The league, introduced by the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF), is designed to provide elite boxers—who missed out on the UBF Champions League—a competitive platform.
“In my 33 years of investing in boxing, I’ve never received such a donation until Mr. Wang came along,” said Lukanga BC founder Samuel 'Don King' Lukanga. “We’ve dominated with limited resources—now imagine what we’ll achieve with world-class gear.”
Wang Yun, who described boxing as his childhood passion, said the donation is his way of supporting Ugandan fighters in achieving their dreams.
“I always wanted to be one of the best boxers in the world, but that dream didn’t come true. Now, I want to help others realize theirs,” Wang said. He also urged the Ugandan government to consider tax exemptions on imported sports equipment, noting that high taxes discourage potential donors.
The donation includes six punching bags branded with Mayweather Promotions’ TMT (The Money Team) logo, dozens of dumbbells, professional boxing shoes, hundreds of gloves, groin guards, breast protectors, training kits, and competition jerseys.
Several elite boxers, including Farahat Manirola (lightweight), Richard Kasujja (welterweight), Reagan Magumba (light welterweight), Zahara Nandawula (lightweight), and Sharua Ndagire (bantamweight), praised the donation for its impact on their training and careers.
Alongside Lukanga BC, other top clubs such as COBAP, UPDF, Brawn Boxing Club (Kulambiro), Kitintale Sparks Bombers, and Namungoona are also ramping up preparations for the upcoming championship.
