Kyomugisha wins Toro Ladies Open

Kabale Golf Club’s Melon Kyomugisha carded an overall six-over 146 over 36 holes to win the Toro Ladies and Seniors Open at the Toro Golf Club on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 3, Kyomugisha beat home girl Peace Kabasweka and Uganda Golf Club’s Judith Komugisa who finished second and third by six and seven strokes, to claim her second major this year following her West Nile Ladies Open victory registered earlier in May.

This was also her fifth victory this season at the par-70, nine-hole course, in addition to the Ankole Open and the Mbarara Ladies Open and the Mutebile Memorial at her home course in Kabale.

She was a double winner on the day having also bagged the nearest to the pin award

The Absa Bank sponsored one-day tournament that attracted players from different courses across the country, had Lira Golf Club’s Jennifer Opio claiming the seniors’ gong with 200gross over 36 holes.

Jill Pinda and Mbarara’s Lillian Kanyamatonwa also made the podium after returning 167 and 168nett respectively.

Uganda’s only two professional golfers Irene Nakalembe and Flavia Namakula also featured with the former winning by four strokes over two rounds.

The event was co-sponsored by Ekspresso, Gauff and Pepsi.
