Kampala Junior Team (KJT) was crowned 2022 Futsal Super League champions on the final day of the season over the weekend at the Old Kampala Sports Arena.
The title race went down to the wire as the Mengo- based side was able to dethrone the defending champions, Park FC with a better head-to-head record.
Both teams finished with 33 points but KJT won the title thanks to a 3-0 over their rivals in the previous matchday which was the only defeat that Park FC suffered all season, but ultimately cost them their title.
Heading into the final match day of the season, both teams were expected to win their games as Park was hoping to capitalize on any slip-ups which ultimately didn’t come to fruition.
KJT celebrate with the trophy
A 5-2 win against Aidenal SOSA was enough to seal the deal as they were yet inspired by the brilliance of the league MVP, Abbas Kyeyune who oozed class throughout the season.
Park FC who finished second, will take some consolation from an outstanding season but ultimately fell short with two of their players picking up two of the three individual awards.
Brian Drileba picked up the award for best goalkeeper of the season after he conceded a league-low 20 goals in 14 matches played, Futsal being a high-scoring sport.
Park’s Abasi Muluya was awarded the golden boot as the league’s best marksman and finished with 33 goals for the season.
The award ceremony was headlined by a special guest, Roger Byamukama, FUFA executive member who was representing the FUFA president Moses Magogo in his absence.
In what has been a highly entertaining and nail-biting season, the 2022 Futsal Super League season will be one for the history books.
