David Kamulindwa will start this year’s professional golf tournaments in pole position after finishing top of the 2025 local Order of Merit standings.
Kamulindwa competed in 12 events and made the cut in all of them, accumulating 92.55 points to finish first overall.
He won four tournaments last year, including the Equity-NARO Professionals Golf Open Championship, the Watoto Golf Fundraiser Tournament at Kitante, the Stanbic Entebbe Open and the Kinyara Open.
The Namulonge victory marked Kamulindwa’s seventh career win since 2018. Although he has also competed on the Sunshine Development Tour in Kenya without notable success, he remained consistent and dominant on the local circuit.
Marvin Kibirige finished second on the Order of Merit standings with 69.70 points after making the cut in ten of the 11 events he played. Kibirige also won the Pearl of Africa Golf Series.
Grace Kasango placed third with 60.22 points, while Rodell Gaita, who won the second edition of the Akope Challenge at Entebbe Club in May, finished fourth with 59.70 points.
Sunshine Tour player Ronald Rugumayo finished fifth with 52.84 points, despite competing in only five local events. Abraham Ainamani followed in sixth with 43.84 points, ahead of Herman Mutebi on 42.99 points and Phillip Kasozi on 40.32. Deo Akope, with 31.79 points, and Ronald Otile, with 27.57 points, completed the top ten.
According to Paul Baite, who compiles the standings throughout the year, the Order of Merit rankings are occasionally used by professionals for invitational tournaments with limited slots.
“Given we still struggle to raise numbers for full-field events, it is best used now to measure oneself against peers. The serious ones have used it to package themselves for potential sponsorship,” Baite stated.
