Kakungulu Memorial wins USSSA hockey boys and girls titles

Kakungulu Memorial School has become the double champions of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) hockey after winning the boys and girls competitions at the ongoing games in Gulu.

The girls retained the national accolade after beating Mt St Mary’s Namagunga 4-1 with goals from Tracy Nalubega, Brenda Achayo, Thuwaibah Kiggundu, and team captain Lucky Akello.

Bweranyangi Girls beat St Charles Lwanga Kasasa 3-0 to win the third position and a slot to the FEASSSA games in Tanzania in September.

In the boys’ category, Kakungulu beat Ntare School 3-0 to win the boys’ title that was last won by St Mary’s College Kisubi in 2019 but Kisubi didn’t turn up for this year’s games.

In girls' football, holders Kawempe Moslem, Rines SS, Uganda Martyrs, and St Noah qualified for the semifinals after winning their quarterfinal games.

Kawempe beat Mukono Bishops 1-0, Rines beat hosts Sacred Heart 3-2, and Uganda Martyrs eliminated King of Kings 1-0, while St Noa also beat Amus College 1-0.

In the semis to be played on Monday, Rines will meet Kawempe while St Noa will take on Uganda Martyrs.

In table tennis, Kibuli won the boys' title after beating St Michael 3-0 while Mbogo Mixed beat Mbogo High 3-0 to win the girls' title.
