St Mary’s Kitende 1: 0 Jinja progressive academy (FIRST HALF)
Buddo Secondary School has advanced to the final of the 2025 USSSA Boys’ Football Championship, currently taking place in Ngora District.
The Wakiso-based school secured their place in the final after edging out Bukedea Comprehensive School 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time during the first semifinal on Tuesday.
Buddo SS head coach Richard Malinga said his team would await the outcome of the second semifinal between Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) and St. Mary’s Kitende to learn their final opponent.
However, the highly anticipated match between St. Mary’s Kitende and JIPRA was called off under controversial circumstances. The match was halted in the second half after JIPRA players stormed the field in protest, alleging that the referee had wrongfully disallowed what they believed was a legitimate goal.
St. Mary’s Kitende had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half. The match now awaits a ruling from the USSSA disciplinary committee, which will determine whether the second semifinal will be replayed or if a decision will be made regarding which team progresses.
Buddo SS's journey to the final has been marked by consistent and impressive performances. They booked their semifinal spot with a 1-0 victory over Uganda Martyrs Lubaga in the quarterfinals.
In other quarterfinal action, St. Mary’s Kitende comfortably defeated Kibuli SS 3-0, with Claude Arafat scoring in the first half, followed by second-half goals from Denis Shirkuh and Nkulla Lukunde. JIPRA, on their part, narrowly overcame Mentor SS with a 1-0 win.
The grand finale of the 2025 USSSA National Boys’ Football Championship is scheduled for Wednesday at Ngora High School Grounds, pending the resolution of the semifinal controversy.
