Kabasweka wins 2025 Tooro Ladies Open in Fort Portal

Kabasweka edged Martha Babirye by a stroke to successfully defend her title on her home course, in the event that attracted 90 golfers from across the country.

Tooro Golf Club’s Peace Kabasweka carded an overall 222 over 54 holes to win the third edition of the Tooro Ladies Golf Open in Fort Portal.


Kabasweka edged Martha Babirye by a stroke to successfully defend her title on her home course, in the event that attracted 90 golfers from across the country.


Melon Kyomugisha finished third eight strokes away in the event that encompassed junior, seniors and subsidiary events.


The event teed off on Thursday with the Junior Category, attracting 34 young participants who showcased of what might become in Ugandan golf. Action continued on Friday and Saturday, with the ladies completing 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday.

Kabasweka, who also serves as the Lady Captain of Toro Golf Club, expressed pride both in her personal victory and in the growing impact of the tournament.


“Winning here at home is always special,” Kabasweka said. “But beyond my personal victory, I’m proud of how the Toro Ladies Open has grown. We’ve seen tremendous participation from across the country, and that shows that the future of ladies’ golf in Uganda is very bright.”


Toro Golf Club Captain Robert Mugabe praised the high level of play and the organization of the event, noting its role in advancing women’s golf in Uganda.


“This year’s tournament has been one of the best we’ve hosted. The turnout, the organization, and the quality of golf have all been outstanding,” said Captain Mugabe. “Toro Golf Club continues to play a leading role in promoting the game, especially among women and juniors.”


Club Chairman Frank Kirungi commended the organizing team and partners who made the event possible.


“What we’ve witnessed this weekend is a testament to teamwork and vision,” said Chairman Kirungi. “The Toro Ladies Open is no longer just a club event—it’s now a national fixture that continues to grow in prestige every year,” he noted.


The championship reaffirmed Toro Golf Club’s commitment to developing golf across all levels; ladies, juniors, and seniors, while fostering sportsmanship and community engagement in the region.
