Lillian Koowe emerged winner of the 2023 Mbarara Ladies golf open, after returning a total of 159 gross at the two event that climaxed on Saturday at Mbarara golf course.
The national women golf team star and Tooro golf club indoor and ladies captain, went all the way from day one Friday, leading the rest of the challengers to clinch the overall accolade.
The event that was on both days pegged back by rain, making the course soggy and teasing to most players, but Koowe instead came out shinning brighter especially on the second day where she recorded exceptional underpars on holes 4, 5 and 6 including a birdie on the last hole, to outstate her challengers.
“I am happy for this accolade even though the people I played with were not simple. My start on the second day was not so good but I later recovered to regain the top including a birdie on number 18, but I thank everyone especially those that have supported me through my career,” Koowe said.
Faith Namara returned 146 nett to beat Janet Kabayonga (153) and Godlive Nayebare (158) to take the women group A podium while Dinah Acen Ongol of Palm Valley golf club emerged women’s winner group B after returning 140 nett with Immaculate Cympaye coming top of group C after returning 149 nett and Kate Muganga came out the senior ladies winner after returning 142 nett.
In the men’s category, Nathan Muganga returned 140 nett to win the senior men’s category with Woods Gabriel topping men’s group A after returning 152 nett while Israel Atuhwera came top of group B with a 140 and Alvin Muhimbura topped group C with a 141 nett.
