French golf professional and senior tour player Philippe Corsaletti is currently in Uganda to lead a two-week junior golf camp aimed at nurturing the country’s next generation of elite players.
Corsaletti, a seasoned PGA coach with decades of international experience, is in Fort Portal, where he will collaborate closely with the AFRIYEA Golf Academy and Tooro Golf Club.
The camp targets young players aged 12 to 16, especially those with handicaps of 20 or better. “I’m excited to be here,” said Corsaletti.
“Uganda has some incredible young talent. This camp is about more than just swing mechanics; we’re helping kids understand course strategy, develop mental toughness, and learn the values associated with the game.” Corsaletti’s résumé speaks for itself.
He is a certified Master Performance Coach with the Swiss PGA, a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level 1 instructor, and a U.S. Kids Golf–certified coach. On the course, he has competed at a high level on the European Senior Tour and was a top-four finisher in the 2023 European Long Drive Championship.
His coaching has taken him across Europe, the Middle East, and now Africa, reflecting his commitment to developing golf in emerging regions. The junior camp is part of AFRIYEA Golf Academy’s broader mission to grow the game throughout East Africa, using golf not only to build sporting skills but also to instill discipline, confidence, and important life values.
“Golf is a game of character, and that’s exactly what we’re building here,” said Isaiah Mwesige, Founder of the AFRIYEA Golf Academy.
“Partnering with someone like Philippe isn’t just about technique; it’s about showing our juniors what’s possible if they work hard and stay committed. The goal of the camp is to discover how these young talents can be transformed to dominate the game of golf globally in the future.”
The sessions, held daily at Toro Golf Club, feature hands-on instruction from Corsaletti, covering full-swing analysis, short game, putting under pressure, and on-course play. The camp will conclude with a mini-tournament where the juniors can test their improved skills in a competitive setting.
Robert Mugabe, the captain of Toro Golf Club, praised the initiative.
“This camp is a huge step forward for youth golf in Uganda. Coach Corsaletti brings a world-class perspective, and our juniors are gaining not just lessons, but inspiration, and we appreciate Philipe for his commitment to supporting the game of golf.”
As Corsaletti gets to work with the young players, the atmosphere at Toro is electric with hope and ambition as they look at how to build to the next step from this camp.
