Rally fans from western Uganda will be treated to what promises to be another feast of entertainment when the Federation of Motor Clubs in Uganda (FMU) organised autocross is staged at Mwesigwa Resort in Kiruhura District this Saturday, November 4.

The event which is mainly a competition for rally cadets vying to qualify for the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC), has also attracted top drivers Duncan Mubiru, Ronald Ssebuguzi, and Umar Dauda among others.

Dubbed the Rukaari Lake Mburo Autocross 2023, the competition entry list had by Tuesday morning attracted 29 crews, five 4x4 drivers and a whopping 17 Enduro riders.

Most of the cadets will be participating in the Mbarara event as their 3rd qualification round where the crew of Jonas Kansiime/Ronald Bukenya in a Mitsubishi Evo 8 leads the standings with 54 points, followed by Kevin Bebeto on 39, and John Kyebambe coming third on 37 points.

Bushenyi’s Christopher Bebanza Kateera in 5th place (23 points), and who was only a route opener in February's Mbarara Rally, comes into the event with high hopes of amassing the needed qualification points, while home boys Yassin Mukasa, Didas Matsiko and Happy Katehangwa are readying for a good show in the main event.

Ssempera Kakuule also returns for the qualification battle as the 2023 calendar climaxes.

The 4x4 entries see among others, Mbarara North MP and host Robert Rukaari, join the competition in a Toyota Land Cruiser, with Jungu Kainobwisho parading his Land Rover Defender.

According to FMU vice president technical, Reynolds Kibira, the final list of the drivers and riders will be made after the final car scrutineering in Mbarara on Friday.

“The one available is a list of drivers and riders that have shown interest, but the final starting order will be made on Friday after checking the cars,” said Kibira.
