FUFA has taken a keen interest in how it can develop women's football in the country.

Promoting inclusivity and diversity in women’s football and empowerment, increased participation and support for women’s football, success stories and inspirational women in football, and challenges and opportunities for women in coaching and administration among others.

This was emphasised at the inaugural Women in Football Bonanza on Wednesday night at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

Dr. Ruth Aisha Kasolo, the Project Director of Private Sector Foundation who was the chief guest urged the participants to always know their worth if they are to excel.

"For you to succeed, you have to be courageous. You have to show that you can earn it. If you want to cross barriers, you have to become better than men. If you want to have women in football, you have to convince the men. The power of man is vital for the progress of women," noted Kasolo who pledged support towards young women.

Guinness who contributed sh110m towards the organisation of the event plus Finance Trust Bank has committed more support towards women's development projects.

"We are celebrating women in sports. This works with what we believe in. We shall be doing this for many years to come. We are going to see more engagement with women," Roy Ronald Tumwizere, the Brand Manager of Guinness.

At the same event, Paul Ssali, Chris Kalibbala, Ayub Khalifah, Catherine Adipo, Annet Nakimbugwe, Bety Mayanja Betty, and Kawempe Muslim were also rewarded for their tremendous support towards women's football including the late Rebecca Namiiro Kazibwe who was represented by her daughter Mariam Ssempijja.

FUFA boss Moses Magogo revealed that this will contribute to the progress of women's football in the country.

"Every year, let's have an event to celebrate the women in football and women's football. These are two different things, but they need one another.  We believe as we celebrate the 100 years, as FUFA, we have done our part and we are still doing more to see that we take the sport to another level. It's much easier to make strides with women's football than men," noted Magogo who was also accompanied by the Head of women’s football at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Meskerem Tadesse Goshime, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa and Kalangala Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli.

Goshime emphasised unity as the key to progress in the game.

"I'm truly honoured to join you in celebrating women in football. Football, as they say, brings people together, forming strong bonds within communities," Goshime.

FUFA's third vice-president, Florence Nakiwala who also doubles as the chairperson of the Women in Football Bonanza revealed that this event has taken sport to another level.
