Floodlights, fame and fisticuffs: How week 10 of the UBCL lit up Hamz Stadium

For the first time ever, the floodlights at Hamz Stadium illuminated Uganda Boxing Champions League (UBCL) action as Week 10 of Season Five delivered 20 thrilling bouts, with the eagerly anticipated corporate boxing clash between socialite Prima Kardashi and Zahara Toto providing the night's grand finale.

Thousands of fans, including artists Geosteady, Nina Roz, Khalifa Aganaga, Uncle Chumi, Martha Mukisa, The Ebonies actress Laura Ndagire, and top influencers, turned up for the fully action-packed evening, adding glamour to the event.

The packed crowd was treated to another dominant performance from UBCL's main card with poster boy, light middleweight Nerrick Bulabe Tumusiime, producing another emphatic performance by knocking out 2014 Commonwealth Games heavyweight bronze medalist Mike Ssekabembe's son, Jonathan Wasswa, in the third round.

Wasswa gave Bulabe an early scare with his talent and determination, but the Kololo Boxing Club sensation eventually found his rhythm to produce another emphatic stoppage.

The result also meant Bulabe has now won all his UBCL fights this season by knockout, with East Coast BC's Depark Mawanda and Katabi BC's Isaac Kasasa being some of his previous victims.

"At the start of this season I urged my opponents to tighten their seat belts. I warned them that I am coming to take over my throne. This is my division and they are starting to realise it," Bulabe told Vision Sport.

Notable undercards were, among others, UPDF's lightweight Innocent Amoko, who knocked out East Coast BC's Reagan 'De la Hoya' Lubega in the second round, with Isaac Kasasa edging Depark Mawanda by a 4-1 split decision.

Featherweight Kasim Murungi unanimously defeated Yusuf Edema while Sparks BC's Stephen Musulube prevailed over Police BC's Sande Simon by a 5-2 split decision.

The night's final bout shifted from conventional boxing to celebrity rivalry, as socialite Prima Kardashi faced TV and radio personality-turned-DJ Zato (Zahara Toto) in a three-round welterweight corporate boxing contest.

The bout was organised by the Ugandan Boxing Federation (UBF), headed by its president Moses Muhangi, also in attendance, as an in-ring showdown to settle the duo's long-running public rivalry.

Kardashi, a baby mama to singer Geosteady, crushed DJ Zato into pulp with judges scoring it a 4-1 split decision victory in her favour to send her fans into a frenzy.

Kardashi quickly bragged about how she had shut up her motormouthed rival before Zahara Toto disputed the verdict, attributing her defeat to what she described as poor officiating.
