With the 21st edition of the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games fast approaching in Kakamega, Kenya, five additional sports disciplines are set to make their debut at this year’s event.

Scheduled to run from August 12 to 23, 2025, the games will feature boys and girls competing in newly introduced categories including cricket, beach football, beach volleyball, scrabble, and chess.

FEASSA president Justus Mugisha, speaking at the recently concluded USSSA National Ball Games II and Athletics Championships in Tororo, stated that the inclusion of these new sports aims to uncover hidden talent across the region.

Mugisha noted that this move was a resolution passed by the FEASSA executive committee during a meeting held earlier this year in Kenya. The expanded sports lineup is intended to widen participation and offer students more avenues to develop and showcase their athletic potential.

Uganda will be represented in lacrosse by Nabisunsa Girls, Bombo Army, Empower International, St. Peter’s Tororo, and Kigezi High School, fielding teams in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. In beach volleyball, Bukedea Comprehensive Hilton High School, Bukedea Comprehensive, and Seroma Christian High School will compete in the boys’ and girls’ brackets. Ntare School and Wampewo Ntakke are set to take part in the chess competitions.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) is preparing to defend its FEASSA title following national qualifiers held in Kayunga. In boys’ U15 football, Rays of Grace and Namagabi UMEA earned spots, while Oasis Primary School and Bweyogerere Church of Uganda will represent Uganda in girls’ football.

In netball, WINSA and Namagabi UMEA secured qualification, while St. Kizito Preparatory Seminary and Ndeeba Primary School will represent Uganda in boys’ volleyball.
