Jonathan Oumo, head coach of Amus College Volleyball Club, is confident that his team will earn promotion to Serie B this season.
“My players are performing exceptionally well. Since joining the league in 2024, they've gained valuable experience and haven't lost a single match,” Oumo said.
This Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Amus College men’s team will face off against Mbale City Volleyball Club in the Eastern Uganda Volleyball League Serie C playoffs at the Amus College grounds.
Meanwhile, the Amus College women’s team is set to battle Bukedea Comprehensive Women’s Volleyball Club in the finals.
“Playing on home ground is always special,” Oumo added. “Our fans give us great energy, and we try to connect with them. We want to give them the joy they deserve by defeating Mbale City.”
In the second men’s semifinal, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mbale Campus will take on Bukedea Comprehensive Men’s Volleyball Club.
The Eastern Uganda Volleyball League, under the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), is part of the national competition structure at the Serie C level. Winners of the playoffs will be promoted to Serie B, Uganda’s second-highest volleyball tier.
Participating clubs this season include Bukedea Mission, Kumi University, Amus College, Kumi Northern Division, UCU Mbale, Ngora Fighters, Nyero Rock Painters, and Mbale City, among others.
Okello Perez, manager of Nyero Rock Painters Volleyball Club, acknowledged a disappointing season but vowed to return stronger.
“We didn’t perform well because we lacked experienced players,” Okello said. “However, we’re planning to sign new talent ahead of next season.”
Vincent Ingurat, Chairperson of the Eastern Uganda Volleyball Association, confirmed that the league will conclude by the end of May, with the top club earning promotion to represent Eastern Uganda in Serie B next year.
“Each year, the regional league has helped identify promising clubs ready for national competition,” Ingurat said.
Emmanuel Ekarac, General Secretary of the association, praised the UVF for introducing lower-tier competitions, which he says have played a key role in discovering grassroots talent.
Currently, E-Planet Volleyball Club (Men) and Kumi University Volleyball Club (Women) represent the Eastern Uganda Volleyball Association in Serie B.
