Last evening, the University of Ghana welcomed track events of the Africa Games.

The games also doubles as the 2024 Olympic qualifier for athletics and seven other sports disciplines.

Shida Leni qualified for the 400m semifinal after clocking 53.42 to finish in third place in the women's category.

Uganda's Haron Adoli won his 400m men's heat with a time of 46.21 to qualify for the semifinal.

Aneno Suzani ran 2:04.36 in the third heat of 800m to finish third, former World Champion Halima Nakaayi ran 2:03.59 in the first heat and won it after leading from the start.

The two qualified for the finals set for today.

Uganda's Tom Dradiga ran casually to clock 1:47.55 to finish third and qualified for the finals also set for today evening.

In 100m, Jacent Nyamahunge ran 11.83 to qualify for the semis but failed to make it past here after finishing 5th.

Nigeria's Justina Eyakobeyan won the semifinal heat with a time of 11.61.

In the men's 100m, Uganda's Pius Adome finished 8th with a time of 10.75 in heat one.

This was one of the fastest heats as it took three to the semifinal based on performance.

His counterpart, Benson Akor was one person to qualify but finished 4th in a time of 10.85.

Athletics returns today at the University of Ghana Stadium with the 400m semi-final in both Men and Women, 800m finals in both Men and Women plus other disciplines.
