MARACHA - As one of his campaign pledges ahead of the January 26 presidential polls, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate and president, Yoweri Museveni has promised to work on the road network in West Nile.

In particular, he promised the people of Maracha that come next term if they vote him back in office, he will work on the vital roads that are a big challenge not only to the people in the district, but even other areas in Northern Uganda.

“We had to struggle to tarmac the road from Karuma Falls all the way to Koboko, even when funds were limited.”

Museveni also also pledged the extension of high-voltage 132KV electricity from the Karuma power dam to meet increasing power demands caused by economic activity in the region. (All Photos by Eddie Ssejjoba)

“We are now planning to work on the one from Atiak - Adjumani to Moyo,” the president pledged.

He added that he will also develop the roads from Panyimur to Pakwach, then to Rhino Camp and Wanyara, and promised to work on the Terego-Moyo road.

He also pledged to the extension of high-voltage 132KV electricity from the Karuma power dam to meet increasing power demands caused by economic activity in the region.

“I, therefore, urge the people of Maracha to vote for the NRM to allow us to continue with what we have achieved and to add more.”

The President, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, was on arrival at Maracha on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, received by NRM leaders led by the Speaker, Anita Annet Among, Central Executive Committee members, ministers and district leaders.

According to the President, Maracha has 62 government-aided primary schools and seven government secondary schools.

He, however, regretted that when the NRM introduced free education, some school authorities insisted on charging learners, which he said made it difficult for children from poor families to study.

He, however, said he set up zonal Presidential Skilling Hubs across the country to demonstrate to the country that education and skills training can be free and practical when managed properly and with commitment.

He invited several children forward who had so far graduated from the six-month course training to prove to the voters that indeed children are receiving life skills that can help them create their own jobs.

In addition, he said, he has allocated sh50m for each district to enable graduates to obtain some startup capital on a loan basis.

He, however, warned against misuse of the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds and asked people with information indicating that they had received less than sh1m to give it to the State House officials for a follow-up.
