TEROGO - The people of Terego district in West Nile have appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to build them their own Skills Centre to provide skills to the many unemployed youth who unsuccessfully search for opportunities.

They said many of the young people cannot get employment because they don't have the required skills.

The request was given to the President on arrival at Leju Stadium in Terego district, where he addressed a rally on Wednesday, October 15 2025.

The President first commissioned the newly completed stadium and was received by district leaders led by the Chief Whip Hamson Obua, who also doubles as the NRM national vice chairman for Northern Uganda.

The NRM flag bearer for Terego East, Wilfred Babanga Erima, appealed to residents to overwhelmingly vote for President Museveni and other NRM flag bearers based on all the visible progress attained so far.

He, however, said as a matter of priority, the district needs its own Skilling Centre to reduce the journey many have to travel to the one located in Zombo.

He reminded the President of the  Manibe-Yumbe and Manibe-Rhino Camps roads, which he said need urgent attention. He told the President that the two roads were also featured in the NRM manifesto in the last campaign.

The President commended the people of Terego for supporting the NRM. He, however, said that in order to uplift their livelihoods, they need to shift their focus toward wealth creation.

He asked them to vote for the NRM to continue with the prevailing peace, which the government has delivered for the last many years.

He said that this was the first time in over 500 years that Uganda is experiencing total peace and security.

He explained that before the NRM took over power in 1986, Uganda had experienced conflicts even during the precolonial days.

He added that even after 1986, peace was not immediately realised until after the UPDF fought and defeated the various rebel groups, including the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), Joseph Kony's LRA, and other groups.

The President said that since 2007, Uganda has enjoyed total  peace that has enabled the government to build a strong economy.

"I now urge the people of Terego to take advantage of the available peace and security, infrastructure development to generate wealth and improve your livelihoods," he said.

The district NRM chairman, Obiga Kania, who is also the State Minister for Internal Affairs, thanked the President for development projects in the area, saying the area, despite being the youngest district, is one of the fastest growing districts in terms of infrastructure.
