Oyam district chairperson Walter Benson Dilla Oyuku has been declared the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag-bearer for his current position, come the 2026 general election.
Oyuku emerged victorious in the July 24, 2025, primaries with 58,731 votes, representing 73% of the total votes cast.
Dilla beat two other contenders: Former Minakulu sub-county chief Patrick Ogwal Ojok and Emmanuel Oyite, who got 15,811 and 6,399 votes, respectively.
Dilla hailed his voters for the support and vowed to retain his seat in the 2026 general elections. He also called for unity among all the candidates who contested for the party flag in the race.
Meanwhile, Oyite conceded defeat and promised to support Dilla and other candidates who sailed through in the party primaries.
Pader
Meanwhile, it was different fortunes for Pader district chairperson Fearless Obwoya Oyat who lost the NRM party flag for the district chairperson’s position to Alfred Akena. Akena is the former district chairperson who served between 2011 and 2016.
Oboya trailed with 11,803 votes, against Akena’s 15,637 votes.
In the second place in the race was another former district chairman, Godfrey Oringa Largo.
Oringa, who led the district between 2016 and 2021, garnered 12,021 votes.
There were a total of 39,461 votes cast in Thursday’s polls.
