NRM hails Museveni campaign in Lango, says region set tone of activity

Maj. (rtd) Awich Pollar, the NRM Secretariat’s director of foreign affairs, painted a vivid picture of the campaign’s launch in Lango, noting that it is a region that holds strategic significance as the northern gateway for the NRM’s 2026 election push.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has hailed President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign in Lango region, terming it a success.

During a media briefing at the Gracious Hotel in Lira city on October 6, 2025, NRM party officials recounted the warm reception, seamless logistics, and palpable enthusiasm that defined the rallies across the region’s 10 districts.

A warm welcome

Maj. (rtd) Awich Pollar, the NRM Secretariat’s director of foreign affairs, painted a vivid picture of the campaign’s launch in Lango, noting that it is a region that holds strategic significance as the northern gateway for the NRM’s 2026 election push.

“Lango set the tone for the President’s campaign in the North,” he declared, recalling that “Local elders greeted President Museveni with a shield and a stool, which are symbols of protection and authority, thereby blessing his quest for votes and affirming their trust in his leadership.”

This ceremonial welcome wasn’t just ritual, according to Awich,“it underscored the region’s embrace of Museveni’s vision, rooted in the NRM’s manifesto promises of tangible progress.”

From upgraded road networks to bolstered healthcare and education, added that the campaign spotlighted initiatives tailored to Lango’s needs, resonating deeply with communities eager for development.

Unity, order during campaigns

Awich emphasised that across rallies in districts like Dokolo, Amolatar, Alebtong, Otuke, Apac and Kwania, the events unfolded without a hitch, no clashes, no disruptions.

Remarkably, supporters of rival political parties joined the NRM gatherings. “Their presence wasn’t defiance,” Awich clarified.

“It was a powerful show of unity, a nod to Museveni’s dual role as president and candidate, drawing people across party lines to rally for shared progress,” he said.

This harmony, he noted, reflected meticulous planning and community engagement, ensuring the campaign struck a chord with Lango’s diverse populace.

He said the absence of conflict stood in stark contrast to the often fractious political scenes elsewhere, positioning Lango as a model of civic cohesion.

Infrastructure, development projects

The NRM’s pitch to Lango leaned heavily on its track record and future commitments. Awich highlighted signature projects, such as the tarmacking of the Soroti–Lira and Rwekunye–Apac–Aduku–Lira–Kitgum–Musingo roads, which he said have slashed travel times and boosted trade.

He also pointed to healthcare strides, like the recent upgrades to Akere Health Centre II and plans for a new Health Centre III in Akiki, alongside an ambulance for Maruzi Constituency’s Health Centre IV.

“These aren’t just promises,” he said, adding, “They’re proof of what NRM delivers when entrusted with leadership.”

The Parish Development Model (PDM), injecting sh100 million annually per parish, was another focal point, with success stories of locals like Okello and Apio in Apac and Kwania showcasing its transformative impact.

Museveni’s pledge to scale up PDM funding, alongside support for unemployed graduates and religious leaders, further fueled excitement.

Campaign adjustments

Awich explained the postponement of a combined rally for Lira City, Lira District, and Kole.

“Lira city is nestled within Lira district, much like Kampala sits within Wakiso,” he noted.

“We aimed for efficiency with one major rally, but we’ve rescheduled to ensure every voice is heard,” he
noted.

The campaign is charging toward Oyam District, where Maj. Awich and Jacob Ocen, NRM Publicity Secretary for Lira City, said they will hit local airwaves to rally support.

“We’re mobilising through radio to pack tomorrow’s rally and the pivotal exit rally,” Maj. Awich shared, likening the latter to passing a baton in a relay race.

He said this symbolic handoff will propel the campaign’s momentum into West Nile, signaling Lango’s role in setting a high bar for the national effort.

Safety, discipline on the road

Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the party director of information and publicity, underscored the campaign’s flawless execution.

“From start to finish, we’ve adhered to traffic and security protocols,” he said. “The President moved freely across Lango’s roads without a single incident, a testament to our disciplined approach and the region’s cooperation,” he said proudly.

This logistical success, he argued, mirrors the NRM’s broader governance philosophy, law-abiding and people-centred.
