KIKUUBE - Paddy Kisembo of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been elected the Kikuube district LC5 chairperson in an election on Thursday.
Kisembo, who was facing off with National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Phenekansi Timanyire for the position, won the election with an overwhelming victory.
According to the result that was declared by Emmanuel Twine, the Kikuube returning officer, Kisembo scored 26,612 votes while Timanyire garnered 8,712 votes.
The election was held following the death of the district chairperson, Peter Banura, on April 4, 2026, in a road crash.
Banura, son of Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza was knocked dead by a commuter taxi in Butyamba-Kamusunsi village, Kiziranfumbi town council, along the Hoima-Fort Portal highway.
Kikuube district has 330 polling stations and 144,999 registered voters. The Electoral Commission report indicates that a total of 35,324 valid votes were cast.
Rejected (spoilt) votes were 887. The total number of ballot papers counted was 36,211.
The Electoral Commission reported that 74 ballot papers were spoiled.
Kisembo, with 16,459 votes, was defeated in NRM primaries by Philip Mbabazi Burnet, the son of Gen Matayo Kyaligonza, who got 23,279 votes.
However, the NRM secretariat replaced Mbabazi with Kisembo as the party flag bearer after Mbabazi failed to produce required academic documents.
