PLU taps Daniel Izale to replace late Gen Moses Ali in Adjumani West
Izale, 49, is among the people hoping to replace the long-serving politician, who served in various ministerial dockets in his vast political career and was revered as a great statesman, freedom fighter and peacemaker in the West Nile sub-region.

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has unveiled Daniel Izale as their candidate in the race to replace the late Gen Moses Ali as the Member of Parliament for Adjumani West in Adjumani District.
Ali, a veteran in Ugandan politics and the military, died on July 18 at the age of 87. His death set in motion plans by the Electoral Commission to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.
The by-election will be held on September 17.
Izale, 49, is among the people hoping to replace the long-serving politician, who served in various ministerial dockets in his vast political career and was revered as a great statesman, freedom fighter and peacemaker in West Nile sub-region.
The PLU choice hails from Odrueyi zone, Biyaya ward, Adjumani town council.
Donning a black suit and a yellow necktie, Izale was unveiled at the PLU's national headquarters in Naguru on Wednesday (August 12).

After a two-hour-long meeting with the PLU northern region mobilisers, he was escorted to express his interest at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party electoral commission headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala.
Henry Basaliza, the PLU deputy director of mobilisation, said Izale is determined to fill Ali's giant shoes.
“We have confidence in Izale that he will represent the people of Adjumani West constituency with the required standard of fighting corruption, promoting unity and patriotism in the region,” he said at the unveiling.
“We have an understanding with the NRM establishment and structures in the area under the 'Tuko Pamoja' partnership arrangement with PLU to mobilise the required support for our candidate in the area."
Representing NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, the ruling party's director of external affairs, Maj. (rtd) Awich Pollar, commended the work by the PLU team in the January general elections.
“We have had a long-standing memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the PLU since the 2025-2026 general elections campaign. In the last campaign, PLU did a lot of work to support President [Yoweri] Museveni, who did not even appoint the campaign task force like it used to be before,” he said.

"PLU has been in the womb of NRM, and its commitment towards our goals has been commendable in all the activities we have worked together, and our cooperation has promoted discipline required in day-to-day running of public affairs."
A civic-focused mobilisation movement, PLU is led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is currently serving as the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief of Defence Forces.
Who is Izale?
Izale hopes to ride on PLU's rising popularity to take up a key political role in the current 12th Parliament.
He is a certified public accountant, a father and a farmer who studied primary education at Magulu Primary School and later attended St. Mary’s Assumpta Secondary School, Pakel, in Adjumani District.
He also studied at Highway College Makerere in Kampala and later at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where he acquired a Diploma in Local Government and Finance Management.
Izale, a holder of an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) certificate, is a businessman who owns a community school with initiatives to mobilise the community to appreciate commercial agriculture.
