Voters in Kyesiiga ward in Hoima City West Division are urging parliamentary candidates to champion their key concerns, particularly the improvement of roads, access to clean water, and electricity.

During the launch of Ismael Kasule’s campaign on Monday, November 10, at Kyesiiga main, residents highlighted the urgent need for better roads and a reliable water supply.

John Mugisa, a resident of Kyesiiga, said that the condition of the roads requires immediate attention.

He emphasised that the poor state of roads is a major issue that both parliamentary and local government politicians should address, holding relevant government agencies accountable.

Kasule, contesting on the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) ticket, promised that his top priorities would include lobbying for road construction, ensuring access to safe and clean water, and improving service delivery in Hoima West Division.

He also called on his supporters to respect each other and maintain peace during the campaign period, stressing that tolerance is crucial for smooth campaigns.

Matiya Kajura, the Uganda People’s Congress regional chairman, reminded candidates and supporters to embrace peace during campaigns.

Pastor Emmanuel Kiiza of United Miracle Church in Kiryatete, Hoima East Division, condemned acts of violence, describing them as a threat to free and fair elections.

Kiiza said, "Acts of violence are backward and shouldn’t happen in Hoima," and appealed to candidates to promote unity and peace. He also urged political agents to persuade voters with their manifestos rather than engaging in confrontations.

He added, "We are advising our people to ensure that they maintain peace during the campaigns and all the candidates should address issues affecting their communities instead of promoting violence."

Oromu Luzira, the NRM flag bearer for Kiganja subcounty, said he personally has avoided clashes by following guidelines set by the Electoral Commission.

Oromu reminded candidates to conduct lawful, peaceful, and respectful campaigns that uphold national unity and safeguard public order. He promised total peace and urged people and campaign agents to refrain from any political violence.

Peter Mayanja, a resident of Kiryatete, called on voters to exercise tolerance and vote for the best candidates. He stressed the importance of observing the law throughout the campaign period and encouraged residents, agents, and candidates to remain calm and united.

He emphasised that when leaders work together, their followers are more likely to follow suit.
