📷 Muntu warns Kikuube residents against voting for self-seekers

"They come here and sprinkle money. Then you go with that one, and yet you are aware he or she is a con man," he pointed.

2026 General Election Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential flagbearer Maj. Gen (rtd) Gregory Mugisha Muntu has asked Kikuube district residents to refrain from voting for self-seeking politicians.

He echoed this during a campaign stop at Buhimba town council on October 20, 2025.

While addressing residents, the former army commander observed that seven out of 10 politicians in the country are motivated by the desire to amass wealth and satisfy personal interests, leaving voters at the mercy of fate when issues like land grabbing strike.

Oftentimes, Muntu said, politicians who ideally should stand with their people and make their voice heard mind their own business.

But for reasons unknown, voters still elect them.

"They come here and sprinkle money. Then you go with that one, and yet you are aware he or she is a con man," he pointed.

"And how much do they bribe you with? Shillings 2,000, 3,000 or 5,000. Let's imagine it is 10,000, can it even last for a week?" he asked the residents, who answered in the negative, with a youthful man saying it only evaporates in 30 minutes.

Unless locals in mineral-rich areas vote honest leaders like him, Muntu warned, they might be excluded from the wealth that shall come with oil production set for mid next year.

"In Nigeria, there is a part called Ogoni land, which is oil-rich. Unfortunately, their oil became a curse," he illustrated.

Teachers plight

While in Buhemba, the ANT candidate also rallied teachers to vote for him. Saying he had a blueprint that would make the profession more attractive as it was back in the days.

During the campaign trail, it is worth noting that Muntu has insisted that the least paid civil servant should earn shillings 2.5 million.

Apparently, Muntu said teachers who are the cornerstone of national development remain trapped between a rock and a hard place.

"A primary teacher earning shillings 400,000. Maybe if he were commuting from his home in the case of a village school," he cited.

"But if one is teaching in Hoima city, for example, a two-bedroom house is rented at shillings 300,000," Muntu elaborated.

Concluding that teachers have little economic room and the onus is on them to put their suffering to an end by voting wisely.

Comparably, Alex (another name withheld), a mason originally from Ntungamo who is working in Buhemba, gave even more damning news.

"In Buhemba, renting a two-bedroomed house which is self-contained costs shillings 200,000 per month. While one without water goes for 150,000," he said.

National IDs

From there, his convoy headed to Kiziranfumbi town council, where youth petitioned him over corruption in the disbursement of national identity cards.

Youths told Muntu that while the process is free, unnamed National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) officers were asking them to part with shillings 50,000 to have their new ID.

After which Muntu went to Kyarushesha in Kyangwali, where he warned the corrupt to prepare for prison.

Saying, unlike today, when he takes power, it will be a given for anyone who tinkered or dips his hands in taxpayers' money to serve time.

What they say

Bernard Kiiza (mason/councillor Kiziranfumbi TC)

As a town, we have electricity but lack streetlights. As for the roads, you can see for yourself. We collect Sh15 million in taxes annually, which is not enough to do all this. We would like the Government to directly intervene and tarmac the road that connects this town to the Kakumiro road.

Maxwell Ahuura (resident Buhemba TC)

We need streetlights in our town to stop any insecurity that might arise.
