High Court confirms Walyomu as Kagoma MP
The trial Judge commended and congratulated the two parties for the first step towards reconciliation for the good of their constituency and Uganda at large.

The High Court in Jinja has declared Moses Muwanika Walyomu as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Kagoma County in Jinja District.
This follows the withdrawal of an election petition case that was filed by Frederick Munyiirwa, a runner-up in the January 15, 2026, parliamentary elections.
The court, presided over by Lady Justice Aida Nakiganda, cleared Walyomu, the duly elected MP for Kagoma County, giving him an opportunity to serve his third consecutive term in parliament.
“I hereby endorse the withdrawal of the election petition filed against Walyomu, and I hereby confirm him as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Kagoma Constituency,” declared Lady Justice Nakiganda on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The trial Judge commended and congratulated the two parties for the first step towards reconciliation for the good of their constituency and Uganda at large.
Speaking to the media at the court premises shortly after being cleared, Walyomu was very grateful to the judge, who he said effortlessly gave the two factions a conducive environment for an amicable resolution of the political impasse.
Munyiirwa appealed to his supporters to remain calm and not to lose heart, stating that he has high hopes for better results next time.
Munyiirwa, a former district councilor for Butagaya sub-county, first contested for the same seat in 2021 as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer, but lost to Walyomu, who ran as an NRM-leaning independent candidate.
In 2026, Munyiirwa still defeated Walyomu in the NRM party primaries, but he (Walyomu) again returned as an independent candidate and triumphed in the final polls on January 15, 2026. Feeling dissatisfied, Munyiirwa petitioned court, asking it to overturn the election outcome until the two parties agreed to an amicable resolution.
