Doreen Nyanjura’s baby news unsettles men, accuse her of 'misleading' women

Meanwhile, Nyanjura's views on cooking have been consistent. “Men can cook just like women do, women are not born with cooking skills, they learn them. Cooking, washing is not a preserve for women.”

News broke on Thursday, March 14, 2024 that Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor and self-proclaimed feminist Doreen Nyanjura welcomed a baby named Rena Omutatina.

Opposition activist Dr. Kizza Besigye, who broke the news, said Omutatina means “one never afraid.”

It was item number two of her 2023 resolutions that Nyanjura shared with her followers in January 2023.

“Resolution number two fulfilled, thank you so much my President for checking on us,” she replied to Besigye who visited her and her baby.

However, despite a flood of congratulatory messages, some of Nyanjura's disciples accused her of disappointing them with the surprise of a baby after ‘misleading’ them for too long.

In her defence however, Besigye challenged a section of those accusing her of ‘misleading’ her followers.

“It helps to look at the profile page & timelines of people that make ridiculous & weird comments interesting patterns emerge! This one thinks feminists shouldn’t get pregnant.”

A section of men in particular failed to conceal their cynicism.
“So @DoreenNyanjura has been submissive, loyal, well-mannered lady cooking during day diverting our wives teaching them feminism,” wrote one.
“So Doreen has been cooking for her man at 2:00am then coming here to divert other women,” added another man.

Meanwhile, Nyanjura's views on cooking have been consistent.

“Men can cook just like women do, women are not born with cooking skills, they learn them. Cooking, washing is not a preserve for women.”
“Teach your daughters how to read, teach them how to be innovative, teach them how to be confident& brave, teach them to be independent, teach them kindness, teach them honesty. Cooking & how to take care of their husbands in my view are secondary skills.”

One of her biggest and long running arguments online has been about women kneeling. “Culture is dynamic. Practices like kneeling for men should be done away with,” she argued in 2023, adding that those that narrowed it to their culture, claiming it is an attack to note that she is a Mutooro and it is also in her culture.

The husband/baby daddy question is more a live now than ever. But in 2022 she told her followers what she has a partner, and they will never know about him.
“People who go on google searching for Nyanjura’s husband, you will never find one, not now, not in future, not ever. I have never sought for a husband, I have a partner and that’s what I need and all I ever needed. Hope, you know the difference.”

This is reminiscent of the reaction Nigerian blogger Linda Ikeji got when she announced she had given birth to a baby boy in 2018.

After preaching celibacy for too long, urging unmarried people to abstain, she was swarmed with criticism for having her baby out of wedlock and attempting to keep the identity of the baby daddy a secret.
