Why King Oyo’s cancer was undetectable in Uganda

The treatment King Oyo received was reportedly for ulcers and other conditions linked to excessive gym training, until further evaluation at Nairobi-based Aga Khan Hospital revealed a devastating diagnosis: Angiosarcoma, a highly aggressive cancer that had already spread to several organs. These revelations were contained in his sister, Princess Ruth Komuntale’s speech during his funeral service in Fort Portal city on September 12.

Cancer specialists caution that King Oyo’s case raises a broader question about Uganda’s ability to diagnose rare and complex diseases rather than simply a single medical error.
