Teso war victims are planning legal action over delayed compensation payments they say were awarded by court but have not been fully honored by government.

Through their lawyers, Omongole and Company Advocates, the victims say they are preparing to take the matter to a commercial court in the United Kingdom over the delayed payment of what they describe as multi-billion-shilling compensation.

Counsel Richard Omongole says the group is frustrated by the delay and is exploring further legal steps to pursue the matter internationally.

Omongole has also dismissed government restocking programmes, saying they are separate from the compensation claims being pursued by the victims.

However, Teso RDCs Chairperson and Amuria RDC Paul Eseru says government has already begun implementing the restocking programme, with several beneficiaries receiving payments of sh5m.

He adds that the programme is part of government efforts to support households in the region.
