KAMPALA - Vice President Jessica Alupo has asked contractors to uphold quality and integrity while doing their work, saying this will develop the construction sector in the country.

Alupo was speaking during the function where Roko Construction Company was recognised with the Platinum Award for its commitment to quality, engineering standards and contribution to the growth of Uganda’s construction industry.

The company received the award during the East African Brand Quality Awards 2025/2026 ceremony held at Hotel Africana in Kampala on October 23, 2026. The event was held under the theme, “Global Visionaries of Quality: Pioneering Sustainable Innovations, Advancing Technology and Value Addition.”

Alupo, who was the guest of honour, urged regional business leaders and award recipients to "uphold quality, consistency, and integrity, embrace value addition, and mentor others to drive excellence and raise industry standards."

Roko was recognised for its quality workmanship, engineering expertise, innovation and commitment to sustainable construction practices.

Roko’s chairman Mark Koehler said the award reflects the company’s longstanding commitment to quality and excellence in the construction sector.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our workforce and our continued commitment to delivering high-quality construction projects. “Our success is built on the hard work of our people and the confidence our clients place in us. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety while contributing to Uganda’s long-term development,” he added.

The awards were organised by Consumer Choice Awards Africa, Investors Hub and iNet. More than 250 brands were recognised from 370 nominees across 230 categories in this year’s edition.

According to the organisers, the awards assess brands on several criteria, including quality, reliability and consumer trust, with the UK-based Chartered Quality Institute participating in the selection process.

The latest recognition comes just two months after Finance minister Henry Musasizi praised Roko’s contribution to Uganda’s construction industry.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Uganda Bureau of Statistics’ office block in Entebbe in August 2026, Musasizi commended Roko for its experience and reliability, describing it as Uganda’s leading local construction company.  Roko is undertaking the construction of the office block.

He highlighted Roko’s track record in executing major construction projects and its contribution to addressing Uganda’s infrastructure needs.

The company recently completed the new headquarters of the Ministry of Finance in Kampala, adding to its portfolio of major public infrastructure projects.

Five decades in construction

Founded in Uganda in 1969 by the late Max Rohrer and Rainer Kohler, Roko has grown into one of the country’s leading construction and civil engineering firms.

Over more than five decades, the company has undertaken commercial, institutional, residential and public infrastructure projects that have contributed to the development of Uganda’s built environment.

Roko employs more than 1,850 people and invests in local skills development through training of technicians, craftsmen and other construction professionals.
