Vice President Alupo graces new Busoga bishop consecration

The Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo, has Sunday, December 14, 2025, presided over the consecration ceremony of the Bishop-elect of Busoga Diocese, the Rev. Canon. Associate Prof Dr Grace Lubaale, at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja City.

Vice President Alupo is representing President Yoweri Museveni as the Chief Guest for this significant religious event.

Rev. Canon Dr Grace Lubaale is taking on the leadership role following the recent retirement of Bishop Samson Paul Naimanyhe.

The consecration service's main celebrant is the head of the Church of Uganda province, The Most Rev. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop.

The day's proceedings commenced with a vibrant procession of the clergy and Bishops, led by a brass band.

The ceremony has drawn a large number of high-profile guests, including Canon. Ruth Nankabirwa, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr Joseph Muvawala, Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister and  Benon Kigenyi, Deputy Executive Director of KCCA (Kampala Capital City Authority).

Others included Daudi Migereko, Former UTB (Uganda Tourism Board) chairperson, Members of Parliament, Stanley Bayoole and his wife, Florence Bayoole (Parents of the Inhebantu of Busoga, Bishops from various dioceses under the Church of Uganda.

Lubaale at a glance

Born on October 9, 1978, Lubaale gave his life to Christ in 1994.

He was ordained deacon in 2008, priested in 2009, and installed as Canon of Education and Training at All Saints Cathedral in 2024.

He was elected the fourth Bishop of Busoga by the House of Bishops on October 7, 2025.

A holder of a PhD in Development Studies along with several master’s degrees, Lubaale is married to Clare Louise Atuheirwe, with whom they have four children.
