UPDF foil cattle rustling in East Acholi
The Commander 5th Infantry Division, Major General Keith Katungyi, assured communities within the division’s area of responsibility of continued protection, noting that sustained operations would be maintained to deter cattle rustling and other forms of insecurity.

ACHOLI - The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 5th Infantry Division has recovered more than 30 herds of cattle in different parts of Acholi Sub-region, in the ongoing campaigns against cattle rustling.
The operation under the wider security campaign codenamed Dumisha Usalama between February 2-4, 2026, covered areas of Lokokwai in Kitgum District, Amita Village in Abim District, and Loborom Village in Agago District.
A release from the Ministry of Defence and Veterans' Affairs states that during the three-day operation, four armed Karamojong warriors were killed.
The troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition, bows and arrows, and three mobile phones.
