UPDF commends Gen. Moses Ali for his contributions to peace and development

The Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Fourth Infantry Division, Major General Felix Busizoori, has commended Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali for his contribution to peace, national unity, and development in Uganda.

Maj. Gen. Busizoori described Gen. Moses Ali as “a living pillar of Uganda’s history,” praising his decades of service in both military and political leadership.

“He remains a figure whose contribution to peace and stability in this country cannot be overlooked,” read part of the Busizoori's message delivered by Colonel Nathan Bainomugisha, Commander of the 501 Brigade, during a victory celebration held on Friday at Paridi Stadium in Adjumani District.

The event marked Gen. Moses Ali’s re-election as Adjumani West County Member of Parliament in the 12th Parliament, alongside the swearing-in of Adjumani District Chairperson John Anyanzo Ambayo.

Maj. Gen. Busizoori highlighted Gen. Moses Ali’s role in the 1986 peace talks between the Uganda National Rescue Front and the government, noting that the reconciliation process helped strengthen national unity.

“Those engagements were not just negotiations; they were a foundation for the peace and stability we continue to enjoy today,” he added, according to a press release from the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.

Gen. Moses Ali was equally credited for supporting economic recovery, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development in northern Uganda, observing that his role in regional security cooperation has helped maintain calm in Adjumani and surrounding areas.

Col Bainomugisha referenced President Yoweri Museveni’s remarks at the 27th National Prayer Breakfast, where he emphasised forgiveness and reconciliation as key pillars of nation-building.

“Forgiveness and reconciliation are essential if we are to build a stable and prosperous nation,” he quoted the President.

During the event, Gen. Moses Ali reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Adjumani and the wider West Nile region.

In a message by his political assistant, Gabu Amacha, the veteran politician outlined priority projects including the elevation of Adjumani to municipality status, construction of the Laropi Bridge, and other infrastructure developments aimed at improving livelihoods and boosting local development.

The event attracted hundreds of supporters, political leaders, and cultural troupes, with entertainment provided by Ayije Band and traditional dancers.
