UPDF 2nd Infantry Division conducts route march in Mbarara City

Military route marches are a long-standing tradition in the UPDF, aimed at enhancing physical fitness, enforcing discipline, and strengthening coordination among units.

MBARARA CITY - The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Infantry Division has today (Saturday, October 25, 2025) conducted a 30-kilometre route march in Mbarara City.

The march, part of a renewed focus on combat readiness, physical fitness and rapid deployment, was led by the UPDF 2 Infantry Division Commander, Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi.

The exercise, which began at the Division Headquarters, brought together officers and militants in a display of teamwork, discipline, and physical endurance.

Before the march, Maj. Gen. Muhanguzi addressed the troops at the Division headquarters playground, emphasising the importance of physical training in maintaining operational readiness.

“The purpose of the route march is to check troop and combat readiness. We regularly conduct such exercises as part of our daily military planning to ensure that all personnel remain fit and prepared,” Maj. Gen. Muhanguzi said.

He noted that the route march fosters teamwork, unity of purpose, and cohesion within military formations—values that are essential both in peace and wartime operations.
