Police in Rukungiri district have arrested two teenage suspects in connection with the murder of 14-year-old student Kam Twinamatsiko, a resident of Nyarurambi Cell, Kasheshe Parish, Buyanja sub-county.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said the incident occurred on November 7, 2025, at about 8:00pm.
Twinamatsiko and his friend, Edwin Niwenyesiga, were reportedly ambushed by two boys identified as George Muhumuza, 14, and Eden Akanyijuka, 16. The suspects allegedly attacked the victims after accusing them of calling one of them a pig thief.
Akanyijuka is said to have used a panga to assault Twinamatsiko, inflicting deep head injuries.
The victim was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital and later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, but he died on the way.
Police visited and documented the scene, and both suspects have been taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Strangled to death
Meanwhile, police in Rukungiri are investigating the suspected strangulation of 39-year-old Pius Kyarisima, whose body was discovered in his bed on November 6, 2025, in Kibare cell, Western Division.
According to Maate, the deceased had visible injuries on the forehead and feet. He was last seen alive on the night of November 5, 2025, at Omukibare trading centre.
The case was reported to Rukungiri Police Station by Caroline Tumusiime.
Kyarisima’s body was examined at Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary and later handed over to relatives for burial.
