Uganda has been selected to host the 2024 Ateker ‘Tobong’u Lore’ (come back home) cultural festival.

Tobong’u Lore annual festival always brings together the Ateker community who comprise the Karamojong, Iteso of Uganda and Kenya, the Turkana of Kenya, Toposa of South Sudan and the Nyangatom of Ethiopia.

Ateker are a distinct group of people with closely related customs, laws, languages, lifestyle and who share a common ancestry.

During the commissioning of 1,560 students who completed a course on patriotism at Boma grounds Katakwi district over the weekend, Vice President, Jessica Alupo confirmed that the festival will be held in Soroti City this year because of tourism, investment and culture potential.

Alupo told hundreds of cheering crowds that she requested Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali to have the festival in Uganda, since Kenya and Ethiopia have hosted it for several years.

This, she added and she is in line with promoting Pan-Africanism-one of the four pillars of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The Vice President however said as Uganda prepares to host the festival, there is need to inculcate in the minds of Ateker people on transformation, industrialization, wealth creation and job creation in line with culture so that cultural problems are resolved.

Alupo requested them to support and always continue to implement the four principles or Pillars of NRM especially Nationalism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic transformation and democracy.

The students from various patriotic clubs were commissioned after completing
the 10-days course.
