Every year on October 9, Uganda commemorates her Independence Day, a proud reminder of the nation’s freedom from British colonial rule in 1962. Today (Thursday, October 9, 2025), the country marked its 63rd Independence anniversary in a grand celebration attended by President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, who also serves as Minister of Education and Sports.

The colourful event drew several dignitaries, including Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, and other top government officials. Kenya’s Vice President, Kithure Kindiki, alongside diplomats from various embassies in Uganda, also graced the occasion.

Vision Group journalists, Mpalanyi Ssentongo and Maria Wamala, captured the day’s memorable moments.
