Uganda Airlines maiden flight from Entebbe International Airport to Gatwick International Airport, London was full of celebrations for many passengers in-flight.

I was on board among other journalists to witness this historic event.

Flight UR 110 departed Entebbe at around 9:50am on May 18 and touched down in London at about 16:55, operated on the airline’s Airbus A330-800neo.



The entire flight journey was smooth for passengers and they cheered on Senior Capt. Sam Masaba, Captain Clive Okoth and the entire crew. They touched down at Gatwick.



The Uganda Airline will run four times a week—on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays—using an Airbus A330-800neo. The nine-hour nonstop flight will offer 20 business class seats, 28 in premium economy, and 210 in economy.



At Gatwick, the Crane and passengers was received by Jonathan Pollard, Gatwick's chief commercial officer.

“Uganda Airlines is very welcome to Gatwick,” Pollard said.

“I have to say that if I get the sort welcome that I had coming through arrivals today, I’m very well looking forward to going to Uganda. I mean, that was memorable. It's clearly a fantastic country for lots of people in the UK.”

Gatwick welcomed the airline CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki joined by senior officials including British High Commissioner Lisa Chesney, Works and Transport Minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, Trade Minister Francis Mwebesa, Treasury Permanent Secretary Ramathan Ggoobi among others tourism professionals, and regular travelers.
