Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) are actively investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a five-month-old baby and have, as a result, arrested two suspects to assist with investigations.
Racheal Kawala, the KMP spokesperson, said the incident occurred on September, 26, 2026, at Kanyogoga, Kawanda Central Zone, Nabweru Division, Wakiso District.
“Police received information regarding the incident on October 5, 2026, at about 7:00am. The deceased has been identified as Magret Nandaula, also known as Tyra Biyinzika. Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was a five-month-old baby who reportedly fell sick the previous week and allegedly died on September 26, 2026,” Kawala stated on Monday, October 5, 2026.
It is alleged that the mother wrapped the baby's body in a polythene bag and dumped it in a pit latrine before she reportedly informed her sister about the incident.
Kawala revealed that police visited and examined the scene, and the body of the deceased was retrieved from the pit latrine and conveyed to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
“Two suspects, namely, the mother and father of the deceased, have been arrested to assist with further investigations. They have been identified as: George Ssendawula, a 44-year-old male residing in Kawanda Central Zone, Nabweru Division; and Sarah Namutebi, a 35-year-old resident of the same address,” she stated.
Kawala said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
