FORT PORTAL - Traffic in Fort Portal City was on Sunday evening (November 27, 2026) paralysed along the Fort Portal-Kasese road as the new Tooro kingdom queen mother, Her Royal Highness Yusta Asiimwe Kijanangoma, made a triumphant entry into the Karuziika palace.
Her entry into the palace is one of the cultural norms and rituals performed in Tooro Kingdom to signify the beginning of a new reign, with Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyabongo I slated to be enthroned on September 29, to replace the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Rukidi IV. Oyo died of cancer in the US on August 27.
Speaking to New Vision online, Alice Asiimwe, one of the Tooro Kingdom subjects, who turned up to witness the new Queen Mother's grand entry, noted that seeing the Karuziika being officially opened again gives them hope that they are no longer orphans.
Job Alinaitwe, another kingdom subject, expressed gratitude towards the Babiito royal clan head, Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, for acting swiftly and in a timely manner to ensure that Tooro gets a new king.
"I can't express the joy I have in my heart, but what I know is that Tooro is going to become strong again," Alinaitwe stated.

Moses Musinguzi, who headed the communications department for the succession committee, asked Tooro kingdom subjects and the general public to be mindful of their dress code on the coronation day, saying those who want to attend should dress decently.
"We shall be happy seeing men in kanzus and women dressed in busuti or long dresses," said Musinguzi.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the chief guest at the coronation function.
