The Ministry of Works and Transport on Sunday, June 29, 2024, announced that its in-house construction unit will, starting Monday, June 30, 2025, begin laying asphalt on sections of the Jinja highway between Lugazi and Njeru.
According to the notice, the roadworks are scheduled to commence at midnight.
"Effective tomorrow June 30th to July 8th July 2025, our in-house construction unit is scheduled to begin laying asphalt on the prepared sections of Jinja Highway, particularly between Lugazi and Njeru starting tomorrow night," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that the works are critical and will require full cooperation from all road users.
"To facilitate faster and safer implementation, motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternative routes throughout this period. Heavy trucks heading to or from Jinja are advised to use the Wantoni/Mukono-Katosi-Njeru alternative route and vice versa."
The ministry also advised that light vehicles should use the Njeru—Bukolooto—Naggalama—Kalagi—Gayaza road and vice versa.
"We urge travellers to; exercise maximum caution; strictly adhere to traffic management guidance and road signage; plan ahead to avoid unnecessary delays," the statement said.
The ministry called upon motorists and members of the public to work together to maintain safety within the construction zone and ensure the timely completion of these essential works.
