KAMPALA - The Committee on Government Assurances and Implementation, one of the four accountability committees led by the Opposition is as important as any other committee of Parliament.

Representing the Leader of Opposition in Parliament at the opening of a 2-day induction workshop for Members of Parliament, Parliament Commissioner Mathias Mpuuga said the committee chaired by Abed Bwanika and deputized by Joyce Bagala is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the pledges & other commitments the government makes.

He said, “While some view this Committee as a ‘dry committee,’ I look at it as one of the most critical committees for those who understand their roles as MPs.”

“Over time, the ruling party has been making promises which they have failed to fulfil which explains why the attrition rate especially for our colleagues in the NRM is high unlike it is with Opposition MPs who are very active in demanding for accountability and services for the people.

This is what makes this a special committee and I encourage the Members to go for any single promise that the government made but has failed to fulfill it,” Mpuuga added.
