Kits for the upcoming birthday run of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and also the National chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), have been launched.

At the launch, on Friday at the PLU headquarters in Kampala, the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), David Kabanda (Kasambya County legislator), said the run will be flagged off on April 26 at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope”, the initiative, which is part of activities to mark Gen. Kainerugaba’s 52nd birthday, aims at raising funds to support vulnerable children across the country, with proceeds expected to benefit orphans, ghetto children, and other disadvantaged groups through collaboration with established organisations.

“We are going to support the vulnerable children in our country; several partners and existing NGOs will help identify beneficiaries," he added.

The kits, which include branded running gear, are being sold at sh20,000 and are available at Kololo Independence Grounds, selected Total and Shell petrol stations, as well as the PLU secretariat offices in Naguru.

The run will start at 7:00 am, with participants expected to arrive by 6:00 am to allow for security clearance and guidance from the Uganda Police Force (UPF).

Participation is open to all people living in Uganda, regardless of political affiliation.

“The most important thing is not the kit… but the will to come and participate. Even if you don’t get the kit, you come and run,” he said.

He revealed that some supporters had already purchased kits and left them behind to be given freely to those unable to afford them.

Kabanda also confirmed that Gen. Kainerugaba will be the chief runner and is expected to be present at the event.

The organisers further acknowledged a scheduling adjustment by another group, Absa Bank, which had initially planned a run on the same day but opted to postpone it to allow greater participation in the MK birthday run.
