Christians gathered at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral, Nyangole, to commemorate Divine Mercy Sunday, a day dedicated to reflecting on God’s boundless love and forgiveness, on March 12, 2026.

Amid joyous hymns and vibrant fellowship, Most Rev. Dr Emmanuel Obbo, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tororo, urged the faithful to draw strength from the early disciples and their unwavering commitment to prayer in times of despair.

In his homily, Archbishop Obbo emphasised the power of faith and communal prayer to overcome adversity, highlighting the disciples’ collective prayer as a beacon of hope and a source of strength.

"As a Christian community, embrace the life of the disciples. Their world was shattered by Jesus' death, filled with fear and anxiety. But even in that despair, they continued to pray together," he said.

The Archbishop confirmed over 40 Christians into the Catholic faith, emphasising Divine Mercy Sunday’s significance as a celebration of God’s infinite love and mercy, while urging the faithful, including the newly confirmed, to be instruments of peace and mercy in the world.

"Let us strive to be Christ's instruments of peace and mercy in the world. When we speak words of comfort, when we offer forgiveness, when we offer grace, we are echoing the words of the Risen Lord," Archbishop Obbo said.

The celebration reminded all of God’s enduring presence and mercy, offering hope and comfort to those burdened by life’s challenges.

"Let us pray for peace from God because what is happening in the world today requires his intervention to enter the hearts of human beings to think about others' lives," the Archbishop added.
