KATAKWI - Three suspected Karamojong warriors were killed in Katakwi district on April 24, 2026, after a group of eight armed raiders was intercepted in a village bush, during which one of them shot a local man with an arrow in the buttocks.

Mike Longole, Mt Moroto/ASTU Police spokesperson, said the incident occurred at 4:00pm in Alengo village, Ngariam parish, Ngariam subcounty in Katakwi district.

According to Longole, a resident, Joseph Ijakol, spotted about eight suspected warriors armed with bows and arrows hiding in a bush and raised the alarm.

The warriors responded by shooting him with an arrow, striking him in the buttocks. His cry for help drew a large crowd of villagers who gave chase.

In the confrontation that followed, three of the warriors were killed, while the remaining five fled into the bush.

ASTU personnel from Corner Ngariam Detach and Katakwi Police responded and restored order.

The three bodies were conveyed to Katakwi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Ijakol was rushed to Katakwi General Hospital and is receiving treatment. He is described as critical but stable.

A manhunt for the five suspects who escaped is ongoing, and security patrols have been intensified in Ngariam and surrounding areas.

Longole, while acknowledging the community's frustration with persistent armed raids, urged restraint.

"We strongly discourage acts of mob justice," he said. "The law must be allowed to take its course. Report suspicious activity and hand suspects over to lawful authorities."
