Police arrest commander of armed warriors in Kaabong raid

KAABONG - The Uganda Police Force on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, confirmed the arrest of an armed suspect believed to be a commander of armed warriors in Kaabong district after a raid on a waragi den where he was drinking.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that, acting on a tip-off, officers arrested three suspects.

Among those arrested was Ngora Alinga Lonyangateba, a resident of Morulem village, Lomeris parish, Kaabong West Subcounty, who is believed to be a notorious raider and leader of armed warriors in the area.

"On Friday, April 17, 2026, at around 5:00 pm, security agencies received intelligence indicating that a notorious armed suspect, believed to be a commander of armed warriors in Kaabong, was drinking waragi at Napeikodo centre, Lomeris parish, Kaabong West subcounty,” Rusoke said.

He said a joint team from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) responded to the information, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

Rusoke said that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect admitted to possessing a firearm.

“He gave good leads on who was in possession of the rifle. All three suspects were transferred to UPDF 45 Battalion Headquarters in Kaabong for further management and ongoing investigations,” he added.

Rusoke said security operations are continuing to recover the firearm and apprehend other suspects linked to criminal activities in the area.
