Three arrested after theft of two motorcycles in Kassanda

KASSANDA - Police in Wamala Region have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of two motorcycles stolen during a nighttime break-in at a home in Kiganda Town Council, Kassanda District.
According to the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, the incident occurred on the night of July 24, 2026, when unknown assailants drilled a hole into the garage of Benedicto Sentamu, 50, a resident of Kawungera village within Kiganda Town Council.
The suspects reportedly entered the garage through the drilled opening before gaining access to two motorcycles — UGE 680G and UMA 661LZ, both red Bajaj Boxer motorcycles. "After opening the garage, they fled with the stolen motorcycles," Kigozi said.
The theft was reported to Kiganda Police Station, where officers immediately launched investigations. Detectives visited and documented the crime scene, while statements were recorded from the victim and witnesses.
Police mounted a search for the stolen motorcycles. Aided by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera footage analysis, police traced the motorcycles to Kyengera Town Council in Nsangi Division, Wakiso District, where three suspects were arrested.
The suspects have been identified as: James Ssebuggwawo, 50, a resident of Nakiganda village, Kiganda Town Council; Edward Kavuma, 31, a casual labourer from Kiyunga, Mukono District; and Yawe Musisi, 32, a boda boda rider and resident of Nsangi in Wakiso.
Police mounted a search for the stolen motorcycles. Aided by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera footage analysis, police traced the motorcycles to Kyengera Town Council in Nsangi Division, Wakiso District, where three suspects were arrested.
The suspects have been identified as: James Ssebuggwawo, 50, a resident of Nakiganda village, Kiganda Town Council; Edward Kavuma, 31, a casual labourer from Kiyunga, Mukono District; and Yawe Musisi, 32, a boda boda rider and resident of Nsangi in Wakiso.
"The suspects, together with the recovered motorcycles, have been transferred to Kiganda Police Station in Kassanda for further interrogation and processing ahead of prosecution," said Kigozi.
Kigozi said the case file will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney in Kassanda, who is expected to sanction charges of housebreaking and motorcycle theft.
Kigozi reiterated the police's commitment to combating crime through the use of modern anti-crime infrastructure, particularly CCTV surveillance.
"Our resolve to follow up on criminals with the aid of anti-crime infrastructure like CCTV cameras remains strong. Criminals are at a 95 percent risk of losing their freedom to jail if they do not reconsider such acts that are harmful to society and punishable by law," he said.
The successful recovery of the motorcycles and arrest of the suspects underscores the growing role of surveillance technology in helping police track down suspects and recover stolen property.
