Stolen tipper truck recovered in Matugga, three arrested

A tipper truck reported stolen from a garage in Bukuya, Kassanda district, has been recovered in Matugga, Wakiso district, after police used road surveillance footage to trace its movements.
Three people travelling in the vehicle were arrested following the recovery.
The blue Mitsubishi Canter tipper truck, registration number UBE 438L, reportedly went missing after its driver, Habibu, parked it at an MM garage in Bukuya town.
The driver had reportedly left the vehicle at the garage after completing work in Lubaali.
According to police, unknown people drove the vehicle away at about 3:00 am.
The owner, Muzamiru Sserugo, reported the theft at Bukuya Police Station on September 3, 2026, prompting investigations.
Police officers from Bukuya visited the garage and documented the scene, while investigators began tracing the vehicle's movements.
Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, said police used CCTV cameras installed along roads to track the vehicle.
According to police, unknown people drove the vehicle away at about 3:00 am.

Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, said police used CCTV cameras installed along roads to track the vehicle.
The truck was subsequently intercepted in Matugga, within the Kampala Metropolitan policing area, and taken to Matugga Police Station.
Three occupants were arrested and detained at the station pending their transfer to Kassanda for further investigation and prosecution.
Kigozi said the recovery demonstrated the importance of promptly reporting vehicle thefts to enable police to coordinate the response and track stolen vehicles.
“We advise victims of vehicle theft to always report on time to enable swift coordination and trailing with the aid of CCTV cameras because they have proved effective in identifying and intercepting such vehicles,” Kigozi said.
Investigations into the theft, as well as the identities and roles of the three suspects, are continuing.
